The Renaissance Child at the “City of Water Day”

On July 16th, The Renaissance Child took part in the “City of Water Day” organized by the Waterfront Alliance . This family friendly event was held in two great locations, including Hoboken’s very own Maxwell Place Park, to celebrate the waterfront and gather families together for a day of fun.

With the skyline as our backdrop, we were inspired to have a painting activity for the children. Our amazing art teacher and fine artist, Hadieh Afshani, worked with the participants throughout the day to paint the New York skyline using stencils and watercolors. Using the stencil as their guide, children were able to create their own masterpiece. We loved seeing all of the creative ways they designed and colored their skyline. Each painting was unique and beautiful. All in all, about 30 paintings were created and artfully framed to take home. It was a great success! Brava Hadieh!!

We found relief from the hot summer sun underneath the trees to enjoy a mini maestro class. We talked about the various instrument families and brought out one of our favorite string instruments, the violin. We loved seeing the children’s excitement in discovering how the violin produces sound. I played a few songs on the violin to show how the different vibrations of the strings changed the sound we heard.

Eager to participate, the kids each took turns in playing a tune on the violin. One little maestro, Felipe, couldn’t hide his excitement when it came to his turn. He loved playing the violin and was even able to repeat some notes and rhythms after me. As he watched the other kids have a turn, he played the bells to create an ensemble with the other violin players. Cheers Felipe!

The Renaissance Child believes in giving our kids the opportunity to try as many things as possible. Be it Science, Art, Music or Sports, our children have a high level of curiosity which needs to be nurtured and explored. Through these opportunities, children can begin to understand where their talents lie and what interests them the most.

It was our pleasure to participate at the, “City of Water Day”. We had an awesome time sharing our love of art and music with the Hoboken community. Many thanks to all the parents and children who came out and made this day a success! And a BIG thank you to Celebrate Life Studio for welcoming us into their Hoboken home. We are very excited to start our program this fall.
